fun-fact!
No brain-space for fic this week, so I rummage out another fun-fact for the night.

Today's question comes from xazis: Does Additive Identity have a sequel?

Answer: No.

I mean, the story goes on, and if I wanted to, I could shake the universe up and squeeze another story out of it.  I sort of know what direction their lives and their relationships were heading in, but I also sort of hope I more or less communicated that or implied that given the way Additive Identity finished up.  I leave the rest to the reader's imagination.  Unless I get bored one day or the turnip bites me or whatever and I decide to add to the story line.

In a general sort of sense, I believe in leaving all of my fics more or less open-ended.  We're fanpersons enough to admit that they're people in our heads, right?  And just because we're not looking at them doesn't mean they stop still and wait until they have our attention again.  I like to imagine that all of my Heeros and Duos go on to live long and fabulous lives with each other after I finish writing about them.  Or fabulous afterlives, as the case may be.

And each of those fabulous ever-afters may be unique, and may even be unique in a way that I can elaborate on.  Want a complete rundown on the psychology behind Duo's actions in Axiomatic/Additive?  I can do that.  Where will it lead them?  This too is a question I can answer.  Write about, shall I?  Not unless there's something in particular about their future that captures my fancy, and/or something I think will capture yours.

I don't really believe in tying everything up in the end all neat and pat and tidy.  I don't like the implication that this is it for them, that after the end of the fic, they will never have another highlight in their lives, ever again.  That's kind of miserable, isn't it?  I mean, I'm not into cliffhangers or anything, but let's leave the rest of their lives and relationships filled with joyous potential, shall we?

I like potential.  That's probably why I like writing ficlets about that moment when they first get together, or first start thinking about getting together, plus or minus some time.  It's like springtime and seeing the first few buds poking out and knowing that something great and beautiful is about to erupt.  I like that warm and bubbly anticipation.  Unfortunately for you all, I make the boys like that feeling, too, which is probably why Haven has gone on for nine years (nine years!) without any sex. ^o^

Anyway.  I better stop now while I'm ahead.  If I haven't passed that point already.  These fun facts are really just a big excuse for me to talk about myself, aren't they? >_>

If you or someone you know would like to submit a question for a q&a funfact session, please do so in this post.

I'm curious to know what scene, for instance, you might be interested in seeing from Duo, or what action of his being illustrated would cause you joy.  Not to say that I would actually do anything with that information.  >_>  Just wondering.  I mean, from my point of view, Duo spent a lot of that time being angry and refusing to listen to reason.  He didn't spend an awful lot of time being interesting because he refused to deal with it.  Though obviously he must have spent some time dealing with it since he came around.

Looking at the rest of my work, you should be able to figure out that I'm just incapable of answering anything with a short, concise answer!

Heero's such an oblivious little plushy sometimes, ain't he? ^o^

Every time I read the AI fics, I have a lovely time doing 'what if?' after. WTH; I just happen to love the creepy Zero and have hope that Duo will eventually learn to... not be afraid of it? Like it? Love it? O_o But that's just me.

^_____^

Man, you totally sympathized with Duo in those novellae, didn't you? =p

Oh totally! *vigorous nod* The mental 'continuation' in my head doesn't end pretty. *grin*

Uh... sorry 'bout that? >_> It's not like... violently 'doesn't end pretty'. More like Duo slowly losing his mind due to the paranoia and subsequent insomnia. *nods*

... I like my ending better. ^^

Here's a private little fun fact just for you, then.  In Additive, I considered having Duo injured in a way that forced Heero to transfer some Zero nanos to him for their healing properties.

*sigh* Ok, so the continuation in my head used to end non-violently. O_o;

Yowsers.  If my idea even out-angsted YOUR idea, then I KNOW it was a good idea not to go there!

Duo has to learn to deal with his in-law, just like everyone else has to.  And just like Zero has to learn to deal with the guy his silly human chose for his life partner.  ^_^
