fic - watering hole part 4 [haven]
Title:  Watering Hole Part 4
Series:  Moments of Haven
Summary:  Continuation of Watering Hole part 3.  There shall be a part 5.  -_-

Notes:  Today's micropart brought to you by Agents D and E.  I am no longer pretending to care who these throwaway characters are.

Additional Notes:  Geez, I remember a time when I could actually write an entire fic in one piece.  Is it just me or are these parts getting shorter and shorter?  It's a slippery slope, I tell ya, starting to post pieces of fics.  Your pieces just start getting piece-ier and piece-ier and next thing you know...

Watering Hole
Part 4
A Moment of Haven

Shevtsova's class was not without its representatives.  Two of the agent-students who had participated in the day's events stood off to the side nursing drinks, observing the interactions of the others.  "Ha, someone at headquarters sure has a sense of humor."

"Hm?"

"Putting those two together."

"You think?"

"You don't?  Come on, those guys are like night and day."

The older agent thought perhaps the younger needed more experience in taking a man's measure before advancing farther in the organziation.  This was the first day they had seen or interacted with the two instructors in any significant way.  "They seem to be getting on well enough."

"Yeah, well, Maxwell's laughing at damn near everything Yuy says, but hell if I can tell if Yuy's actually trying to be funny or not.  My money's on 'not'.  Almost makes me think Maxwell dragged that guy here as a joke or something."

He shook his head.  "Haven't any of you ever wondered how a couple of kids like them ended up teaching seminars for the Preventers?"

"Well, yeah, sure, but wondering gets you nowhere, and I'm gonna bet neither of them would ever give us a straight answer, so..."  He shrugged.  "The people who were in their class speak well of them, and that's all that matters."

"Think about who they are, how they got here.  Those two have skills no normal kids should have.  Hell, skills most adults don't even have.  My theory is, they must have joined up with one of those colony rebel groups.  And they saw action.  Lots of it.  Together.  Those two, they've fought together, bled together, watched each other's back.  That kind of thing ties people together.  And then someone must have recruited them, someone in the same group they were in, or someone they had contact with.  And it'd have to be someone with a bit of influence in the Preventers organization to get guys like them in.  We don't exactly go around hiring kids all the time.  That's the only way I see them being where they are now."

"Hm.  Interesting.  Yeah, I could go with that.  Guess we don't really think all that much about those other resistance cells that sprang up all over the place, what with those Gundams making such a splash, but we've got a lot of agents coming from all sides of the war."

"Hn.  Kind of ridiculous, really.  You know, I've heard people speculate that the Gundams were all a government conspiracy, that they never really existed."

"What?  You kidding me?"

"Yeah, since it's not like we really know all that much about them.  We don't know what happened to their machines, and we don't know what happened to the pilots.  Don't even have that many people alive that were witness to their attacks firsthand."

"That's..."

"Hey, don't take it up with me.  I'm just saying what I've heard.  Actually had someone work a case at my branch where one of these conspiracy theorists stumbled on something he shouldn't have.  There's some pretty crazy stuff out there."

"Yeah, well, people get to think what they want to think.  I heard Lucy say she thinks those two kids should hook up, like she thinks it'd be 'soooooo cute'."

"Maybe she's a spacer, too."

"Nah, she's a woman.  What can you do?"

Hahahaha that was great :P Sorry, I completely forgot to comment to the last few chapters and I only just realized >.>
Maybe this was short (no denying it though :P) but it was funny and I always love it to get some outside insight to their whole relationship :D So yeah, I enjoyed this ^____^

You know what's really funny is WE all have outside insight on their relationship, technically speaking. =)
bloody_winged From: bloody_winged Date: June 1st, 2009 08:14 pm (UTC) (Link)
True XD Though I don't really count that :P I mean... we're with them all the time we're more at the inside than the outside anymore XD Though theoretically you're right, yeah XDDD

Ha, man, I just realized where my disconnect is.  Yeah, sure, I just remembered that we're the ones defining their relationships, and as such, we better know the ins and outs of it.  But I also just remembered that it's always been kind of my philosophy that they have a relationship, with or without us, and we're just peeking in on them once in a while as they navigate through situations of our devising. ^_^

That definitely is a nice thought for sure, yeah :D But really, in my mind there can't exist *any* universe where the two of them *aren't* together. They just belong together, no matter what ^___^ And these peaks into their lives are what makes our lives more interesting ~.^

i really like agent D and E *lol*

love them for observation from a minor character POV, questioning things (which is why I had a big fondness for carmichael, kept the conversation on the edge^^, poor boy..)

i'm sure heero is just that funny, he doesn't need to try^^

well they are getting shorter, but a little every week is better than something big every month (and if you ask me that evening can go on and on ... much like haven^^)
i think it would be funny if they actually straight out asked those two who got them into Preventers, just so they could say "Lady Une" and let everyone choke^^!

looking forward to part 5 ^_~

Carlisle... no, wait, Caulfield.  Dangit, seems like I have too many Agent C's running around. ^o^

It takes a special brand of Duo to really understand Heero's sense of humor. <3 ... no, wait, Heero managed to make Trowa laugh in the series, too.  Darn.

Well, it's a short part, but at least it's a complete scene. =D

It's amazing what marvelous (non-scientific) theories can be spun from a few small observations. ^___^ Bright guys, D & E.

If I infected you with the 'parts of parts' virus, I am so sorry! O.o It does allow more frequent posting, though...

^_____^

Hey, if people can believe that man never landed on the moon... Well, regardless of whether or not people think the Gundams actually existed, I don't think it would be that difficult for people to not believe the guys were pilots.  I imagine the Gundam/pilot mythology to have grown quite a bit even in the few years since the war.

I don't place blame on the shoulders of dragons with teeth longer than turnips. ^^ It allows more frequent posting, I suppose, but on the other hand, I don't feel as much pressure to finish the rest of it, so I write slower, too... Once I post, I feel like I'm off the hook for a while. -_-
lavendarlizard From: lavendarlizard Date: June 2nd, 2009 08:14 pm (UTC) (Link)
For the majority who never saw the Gundams first of all and certainly never got even a glimpse of a Gundam pilot, it probably wouldn't take much to convince themselves that something so incredibly terrifying couldn't possibly have existed. If you don't acknowledge it, then it isn't real. ^__^ Simple. And the ones who believe in all the monsters will swear that the Gundams were a hundred meters tall and the pilots were horned demons from hell. ^___~

The dragon is frequently contagious in the oddest ways... O_O

I feel more people would be more alarmed by the reality of it than they would their personal interpretations.  The idea of a fifteen year old piloting a weapon of mass destruction is kinda terrifying. O_o'

*tries to squeeze out rest of wateringhole* ... Dangit, if I do that, I have to go back to squeezing out the rest of plans4. >_
lavendarlizard From: lavendarlizard Date: June 3rd, 2009 12:33 am (UTC) (Link)
I know I would find it terrifying to imagine a fifteen-year old in control of the real-life equivalent. I haven't met many that age who aren't totally immersed in their own heads (and hormones). O_O;;

*sniff sniff* Do I smell... Plans...? O_o *aaarroooooooo!*

^___^

turnippatch From: turnippatch Date: June 3rd, 2009 04:34 am (UTC) (Link)
Ooh, ooh, you smell Plans?  Where?  Where?  I gonna need some of that soon and I'm fresh out!

I think it would be nice to resurrect Duo's dad, just so he could smack him. ^___^ But I be cranky tonight. ^_~

I love these outsider POV looks at our guys. So much fun.
turnippatch From: turnippatch Date: June 1st, 2009 08:14 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, our guys are a hard bunch for outsiders to read. =)

I am suddenly hearing Dr. Seuss... 'Little cat A and little cat B' or whatever the heck it was. *snicker giggle* Oh, this is just great; it really gives the world a real feeling. That's just how things go with time.
And go Lucy! ^o^
turnippatch From: turnippatch Date: June 2nd, 2009 01:38 am (UTC) (Link)
I should rename all the random agents in this arc and see how far down the alphabet I get. ^o^

... Now I'm wondering why I didn't make Lucy 'Agent F'.  Maybe her name is Lucy Farley or something.  (that means i gotta remember the next random agent has to be G!)

I just want the boys to live a happy life incognito.  Ergo, I have to take steps to ensure no one can figure out who they are. =D

4? Did...I miss something? D: kadjfajdlf~ *goes to look*

Heeheee. Loved it. It's just so fun, I think, that feeling of "if only they knew." XD

It's always fun, knowing something that someone else doesn't. =D

Finally finished to read all of Heaven... It's as great a the first time.
Thanks for qharing!

Wow, you read fast. x_x Glad to hear you still enjoyed it!
rochan01 From: rochan01 Date: June 5th, 2009 02:12 am (UTC) (Link)
LOL! govt conspiracy, too darn funny. I like the little 'outsiders' POV there, and how 'older agent' is so close... and yet so wrong about Heero & Duo.

Now I picture conspiracy theorists ranting away in their tin-foil hats 'proving' Gundams are all special effects fakery.
While Duo laughs his @$$ off and has to be restrained from baiting them.
turnippatch From: turnippatch Date: June 5th, 2009 05:43 am (UTC) (Link)
Well, Agent D (or is he E?) isn't exactly *wrong*, yanno... I mean, Heero and Duo did join a rebel cell in the colonies, and they did come in contact with a lot of people that ended up as high-ranking Preventers, and then they did get recruited by them... =D

Lucy sure got it right, though. ^o^
ramenkuri From: ramenkuri Date: June 6th, 2009 02:08 am (UTC) (Link)
awesome!!! am really enjoying all of the stories. read straight through from "so very backwards"

Duo and Heero make such great teachers.
turnippatch From: turnippatch Date: June 6th, 2009 07:36 am (UTC) (Link)
Must have been one heck of a reading binge. x_x

Heero's got this attitude of, why isn't everyone a badass ninja like I am?  I need to correct this.  Duo just likes talking about how to be clever. ^^'
ramenkuri From: ramenkuri Date: June 7th, 2009 08:52 am (UTC) (Link)
haha, I've had longer binges on your stories.

ah, indeed. why isn't everyone?
turnippatch From: turnippatch Date: June 8th, 2009 08:45 pm (UTC) (Link)
We should all take Heero's class. *nodnod*
