anti-update! - the turnip patch
version 2.0
Okay, here's where I 'fess up and say that I still totally didn't work on any fic.  But this is where I also say that we're finally hitting the end of a four year project at work and I've been hitting the OT pretty consistently for the last couple of months and it's pretty much just a matter of rocking the OT for a few more weeks to shake out as many of the wrinkles as we can before the end.  Yeah, I can manage to find some odd minutes here and there at work to shake out some fic sometimes, too, and maybe that's where some of the last couple of chapters have come from, but when I get home and I don't have that much time to goof off before going to bed to do it all over again, I'm typically preferring to do things that don't require thought.

So for those of you out there that are keeping track of such things, do not be alarmed.  I need no pokes asking if I'm going to finish what I started, etc.  I'm just not bothering to write un-thought-through crap at the moment.

...Hm.  Maybe I should write some one-shot fluff or something.  That stuff usually doesn't require any thought.

(admittedly, i'm also just stalling, as explained in my previous anti-update.  and being distracted by something i need to finish up and return to someone.  and being distracted by a personal side project.  but hey, at least posting an anti-update maintains a tiny little speck of momentum, right?)

I'm told that any momentum is a good thing. Of course, no one ever specifies which direction... >_>

No poking from here; re-reading KD. ^______^

Project is almost finished?! Yay! Does everyone celebrate for a couple of days and then just move on to the next one, or is a long thing like this good for a month or two? ^___~

Good lord, KD?  Well, if any of the links are broken, feel free to tell me.  I doubt anyone's gone through them since I put them up. =) Wow, I remember the days when I contemplated more than one KD movie. =p

Well, the end of the project is always weird because we work hard to close everything out, but then it's still not officially done yet because then it gets passed off for the final testing phases, when the whole thing gets reviewed and we fix final must-fix issues on demand, so it's still a little tense, but it's maybe just a few things.  And then it gets sent off for final approval.  And then it has to go into production and distribution.  And then finally it goes live.

So during that whole end phase when we personally aren't working as hard, they evaluate what they're going to do with everyone, next-project-wise.  (they've assured us that there is a place for everyone.)  Some people will hop into a project-in-progress, and some of us will just keep on swimming where we are.  And I'm not really sure what the policy here is anymore.  We used to get maybe two weeks free comp time at the end of a project, but after they switched us to getting overtime, they said we were being compensated for our time already so we didn't get comp time, but then we got bought and I think their policy is that we do get comp time... so I'm really not sure.

Either way, I'm not committing to going back to a frequent updating schedule because even if I get a month of vacation, I'm not guaranteeing I'm writing anything during that vacation. >_>

You know I'm a sucker for KD Duo. ^____^

Don't you have a garden to tame? A neighbor cat to intimidate? O_o You may not have time to write, even if you want to. ^____^ Gotta keep an eye on those zucchini... ^_~

It was both a pro and a con of KD that I had to find a bunch of different words for black, shadowy, inky, obsidian, dark, etc. =p

The neighbor's cat is still finding his way around the spike strips.  I am displeased.  I think zucchini season is over, though.  The plant is still trying, but all it produces are duds, so I think it's time to just admit it's past its prime and let it die with honor.  It's been really bad timing all summer anyway.  I've been catching most of my dinners at the office and haven't had much time to eat my meager bounties. =(

Were you ever tempted to wander into other languages or has english already mugged them for their colors? O.o

Huh. On the one hand, you do have to admire kitty's tenacity... but on the other, that's one stubborn cat. >_> Maybe you could borrow a dog occasionally? Just a small yappy one... ^___^ One of those feisty terrier breeds...

I dipped often enough into the Latin/Japanese for the Shinma names and chapter titles, without adding colorful vocab to the list. =p

The neighbor on the other side of the old lady's house has an entire front yard that's bare dirt, pretty much.  You'd think that since I have spike strips all along the top of the wall, the cat would decide the other wall was more attractive.  I dunno, maybe their dirt is too difficult to dig through.  I gotta go outside and pound on mine some more, I suppose. =( Or rather, when I've got some time freed up, I'm mulching the hell out of the place.  It'll smell nice, keep the moisture in, AND keep the damn kitty out.  Seems to have worked in the front yard so far...

O_O Does that mean a rototiller...? Those are fun, if you can find a manly man to entertain you by wrestling with the thing... Preferably a guy who has never touched one of the things before. ^____^ The paramedics will get a laugh out of it. (do not ask me how I know this)

My dad's got a tiller parked in my garage, gas-powered and all.  It's seen a lot of action.  I suppose I will till the heck out of a lot of the dirt around there (i.e. my dad will do it for me. =p), but mulching to me really means just buying bags and bags of wood chips and spreading it everywhere.  I thought about having a compost bin and all that to make my own compost and mulch and stuff, but a little bit of thought revealed to me that I just don't generate enough waste to make my own stuff.

Just gotta find the time and inclination to dig up all the weeds and random old plants along the walls.  Wouldn't mind as much if it weren't hard as rock there.  And so far, the weeds seem to make the cat stay away. =p Gonna have to till under all the old veggies, too.  Just a few more tomatoes kindly hanging on for me until I've got the opportunity to eat them.  And maybe if I'm so inclined, next time I'm out at the native nursery place, I can see if I can find some shade-lovers for next to the walls.  Just have to shove the mulch around to make some room for them.

Ah, your dad's a vet with the tiller. ^___^ Good for productivity; bad for the amusement factor. But maybe that'll scare the cat off? O.o

Maybe till in some soil amendment or whatever it's called these days. My dad used to turn in manure in the garden beds every year. ^___^ But so did everyone else, so the whole neighborhood smelled like the dairy the stuff came from. *snicker*

I always say, that you still update more than most other people, especially cause so many left the GW-fandom for greener pastures and I think its just so awesome that after so many years you still write your wonderful heero for us, that a few weeks of a dry spell cause of rl is nothing to despair about ;)

keep writing the way you do and I love you already XD

Ha, well, 'momentum' also means that once I get stuck on something, I tend to stick with it for a while, even when it gets uncool. ^^

(or it's all a part of my ongoing quest for equal heero representation out there.  heeros need sweet fanlovin', too!)

Fluff is good. *nod nod* We like fluff. ^____^
turnippatch From: turnippatch Date: September 9th, 2009 01:01 am (UTC) (Link)
*digs through pockets for some lint* Dangit.  I'm fresh out of fluff, too.  Any ideas?  (ones that don't require much thought? ^^)
sunhawk16 From: sunhawk16 Date: September 9th, 2009 01:13 am (UTC) (Link)
Oooooh no, if I could come up with a nice bit of no thought fluff, I'd write it myself!
Though I must say that I'm seeing a lot of Heero love going on here, but I personally think your Duo is just as cool. There should be some Jei Duo love too... ^____^
turnippatch From: turnippatch Date: September 9th, 2009 02:25 am (UTC) (Link)
*koff* Honestly...?  *looks around nervously* When I first met Duo, I only liked him as someone to play off of Heero. ^^' Not to say my opinions of him haven't since evolved... >_>

Hmm, what could I do with a Heero-less Duo?  Well, no, I suppose Duo doesn't have to be Heero-less.  just not so... Heero-ful. ^o^

*grin* Oh, I want points for leaving a straight line like that lie! ^o^ *is twelve*
turnippatch From: turnippatch Date: September 10th, 2009 07:48 am (UTC) (Link)
...okay, I confess this also: it just took me hours to figure out the meaning of that statement. -_- I was parsing 'lie' as a noun instead of a verb.  Geez, I've gotta get my head in the gutter!

Or, you know, you could *not* let it lie and explore it yourself. ^_^

Hehehehe... we need to work on your juvenile innuendo. :D
