Two Peas in a Pod : 2

"You've got an odd look on your face."

Duo turned to see Heero casually lift a celery off the party platter and start munching on it, watching from afar the strange festivities of their fellow agents cavorting merrily with an agent in a Santa suit.  "It's an odd spectacle."

"Hmm."  The celery was good cover.

It had been Duo's excuse for putting a bit of distance between himself and the rest of the office party as well.  "I was just wondering... what it would be like.  Being a kid that could actually believe there was such a thing as Santa Claus."

"What would you have thought?"

"I'd have thought... I'd probably have thought of him the same as God.  Old guy we can't see, always watching us to see if we're naughty or nice.  Rewards us if we're nice, punishes us if we're not.  Would kinda make sense if he were just some metaphor or something for God, it supposedly being the birthday of His kid and all.  Anyway, I never had much of a positive relationship with God, so I don't expect I'd have thought much of this Santa guy."

Heero finished off the last of his veggie stick.  "Santa punishes children?"

"Well, doesn't give them gifts, I guess, aside from the occasional coal.  Which, I dunno, would have seemed pretty useful to me.  Coulda kept myself warm with it or something.  What about you?"

After a moment's thought, he snorted softly.  "If there were someone always watching us... let's say we would have shot first and asked questions later."

Duo stifled a laugh.  "I can't tell you how glad I am that I'm not the only messed up person in this room."

"Not even close."

"Say, I think we've done our duty here, don't you?  Put in enough time?  Shown our faces?"

"What are you proposing?"

"I'm proposing we get out of here.  Find some place that's not playing non-stop holiday music and, I dunno, get some real grub?  Whaddya say?  Dinner?"

"I heard they would be bringing out a karaoke machine soon."

"I'll take that as a yes.  Come on."

Oh, that would indeed be a 'yes'. ^___^ Gotta love the 'shoot first' thing too. For Santa, god, or the karaoke machine. Happy new year!

They'd totally be able to hide the body(s) afterward, too.  It'd be pretty epic.

I'm not even sure these two qualify as the most messed up of the gundam pilots. (My money is on Zechs.) I'm amused at the idea that both being messed up is part of what keeps them together. :-)

In his more cynical moments, Duo believes that this is one of the only things that keeps them together.  A good whack on the side of the head from Heero usually knocks that thought back to the bottom of his brain.

Lol! "The celery was good cover."

Hey! Why would you run from the karaoke machine? Hehehe.

Some people are great with a karaoke machine.  Preventers slightly tipsy off eggnog...?  I'm not betting they're in that crowd. =)

Oh god... get out before the karaoke starts!! I'm with Duo... I hate those stupid office parties; the food is seldom worth it, and one shouldn't get that kind of social with co-workers. >_>

I skipped the whole xmas party this year.  It was reasonably close to home, except in the middle of a busy area at a busy time of the evening, and even though they let us out early for it, it seemed much better to just stay at work and be productive while there was no one around to bother me. -_-
